I stood here: The sculpture ‘People Like Us’ by John Clinch in Mermaid Quay represents the people of Tiger Bay in the days when this was a thriving port – when I stood here I didn’t notice I had framed the Norwegian Church in the background
I have absolutely no imagination, so to try to kick-start my thinking I have decided to join in with the Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt hosted by Eileen on her A Bracelet of Days blog. Here’s her introduction to the hunt.

Industrial: An old dock crane outside Techniquest – I’m sure I can take a better picture of this but at the moment the hands-on science discovery centre is surrounded by scaffolding
The challenge lasts for months so I hope I am going to improve by the end of it. When I look at Eileen’s images they are always so well composed, while my photos are always more or less “snapshots”. At the end of the challenge I will choose my best pictures for each of the categories, listed here…
* in the bag * contrast * the way to go * colours * a garden gate * vintage * I stood here * 11 o’clock * solitary * the little things * industrial * time for tea * a keyhole * flavour of the month * letters * a barrier * a line * a chain * an alley * monochrome, ie varying shades of the same colour. The spare alternative subjects are: chequers or chess * a community market *

Industrial: I see this every day from my office – it’s the Celsa Steel works in East Moors Road
I will occasionally post my latest attempts. This is the first of those, with images inevitably captured in the only place I see during daylight at this time of year, Cardiff Bay.

Letters: The Wales Millennium Centre has lettering made of windows…

…I wonder if this is a slightly more imaginative view?

A line: lighting columns in Roald Dahl Plass – the former Oval Basin of the docks

A line: The side of the Senedd, the Welsh Assembly building

A line: The Water Tower, also known as the Torchwood Tower

Colours: A sign for a new cafe bar, called Academy @ Platform, at the entrance to Cardiff Bay railway station

Colours: Dawn from my bedroom window on December 2, 2019

The way to go: A wonderful weather vane on top of Bill’s Brasserie – it’s the former Pilotage Office for the river pilots who operated in the Bristol Channel, helping ships find their way in the treacherous waters
And finally…

Flavour of the month: In December we remember that we like blue Stilton cheese for Christmas – and this Camembert, which really smells in the fridge but tastes delicious
Thanks again to Eileen for hosting this meme – I look forward to improving my focus by concentrating on her photographic prompts throughout the next couple of months.
I think you are being too hard on yourself. There’s nothing wrong with any of these photos and you’ve made a brilliant start. The hunt is all about having fun, getting out and about, and becoming aware of things around you that you don’t normally notice.
I love the Millennium Centre building for letters, and the weather vane for the way to go.
Thank you for your encouragement 🙂
By the way, I have just added a last picture at the end, while it’s still December, for “Flavour of the Month”.
Thanks for hosting and have a great 2020.

The steel works with that vivid blue – great potential there. I snap, then crop on my laptop when I can see what I caught. I still have a LONG way to go to learn to ‘fill the frame’ on the camera.
It’s funny how our steelworks are always painted blue…
I too don’t totally compose in the frame on the camera, as I’d hate to crop off a vital corner.
All the best for 2020 🙂
Who said you have no imagination?
Your photos are lovely! I especially like both ‘letter’ photos, and ‘a line’ ones.
Thank you for the encouragement!
Best wishes 🙂
Those are great finds for the photo prompts and I think you’ve taken great photos! I really like that weather vane! I, too, thought I had no photography skills (don’t even have a camera, just my cell phone) but, Eileen persuaded me that I took great pictures and I have really enjoyed participating in her photo scavenger hunts! I hope that, you, too, will enjoy the process.
Thank you – and I am now following your blog.
All the best 🙂
I love the lettering on the Wales Millennium Centre. I prefer the angle and framing on the second photo, but it’s all down to personal preference.
Thank you. And yes, it possibly shows a bit more thought!
Best wishes 🙂
