The sycamore I am following in Llandaff Fields, Cardiff

After a few cool and wet months here in South Wales we finally had a brief Indian summer last week with temperatures reaching nearly 30C for a few September days – and after complaining about the cold and wet we now complained about the heat…

I visited the sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) I am following in Cardiff’s Llandaff Fields after the weather had broken again, when it was pleasantly fresh and bright. The tree shows no sign of autumn colour, although the leaves seem to be thinning out anyway.

A Catalpa or Indian Bean Tree in Cardiff’s Victoria Park in August

It’s that time again for the monthly tree-following get-together. Here in South Wales wet and cool weather throughout August ruined the school holidays. But now as September begins and the children return to their classrooms we are experiencing a mini heatwave with temperatures almost reaching 30C.

I expect to visit the sycamore tree I am following in Cardiff’s Llandaff Fields some time this week and I hope you have all had a chance to inspect your trees. I look forward to seeing everyone’s news and pictures once again.
