It’s time to look at some more words. This particular ramble through the English dictionary starts with the fact that when I am sub-editing our Cardiff newspaper, reporters are always wrongly spelling the Marquess of Bute as the Marquis of Bute.

I thought by now that following a hornbeam in Llandaff Fields in Cardiff would be boring, especially as I wouldn’t expect much change in high summer. It’s my least favourite season, when the sheer weight of greenness everywhere grows tired – and tiring.

I usually visit between 8am and 9am every month, but to vary it a bit, I had planned to go at a different time of day, maybe on my way home one evening.

I have realised lately that I have a big problem. Many work colleagues have been leaving the company at once and I find it impossible to watch their office leaving presentations and listen to the speeches without crying. And it’s nothing personal, but I NEVER go to after-work leaving “dos”. I’m not particularly sad, it’s just that tears are a reflex I can’t stop.
