I needed a user name – and fast. I was looking out of my window and the first moving thing I saw was one of our garden grey squirrels. OK then, squirrel.
But squirrel what? Squirrel Nutkin? No, I don’t think so…
When I first started as a journalist 30 years ago we had a squirrel drawer. This was where the typed-up articles were kept to be used on a rainy day – such as Christmas and Bank Holidays, when not a lot was happening. They were almost news but not time-sensitive.
We kept them in a drawer out of the way, although proper “live” articles were kept in wire baskets on the desk.
Today our baskets – and drawers – are electronic, virtual. We could call one a squirrel basket, but instead we call it “hold”.
Anyway, its non-existence makes squirrelbasket an ideal name as a Google search will find only twee containers, squirrel basketball (bizarre idea – they would probably bury the ball along with their nuts) and me…
Just from what I read of how you cam up with your user name tells me you are my kind of people..we need more of them. You are an out of the box thinker..One of my hobbies is photography and I may forget somethings, but never my camera..24/7…I take pic and later write off the wall captions , which I may use to make a card for someone later.
Anyway just thought I would share..I love your site by the way..and remember..don’t do “nuttin” I wouldn’t do..kj
Thank you for your kind comments, kj, both here and on my weeds blog post.
Good luck with your book(s) and your photography. Keep up the good work!
Best wishes…
I read that poem at school “i took my mind a walk” and it has always stuck with me as I think it is like when you doze in bed and go on fantastic journeys! THANK YOU
Thank you for commenting. Although I’m not sure you’ve put your comment in the right place on my blog 🙂
For anyone who is looking for it, the poem appears at the end of my city wildlife walk page.
Best wishes – and may you have many more fantastic journeys!
Since I love squirrels, “The Squirrelbasket” is what caught my eye and made me getting curious. That’s the reason why I clicked the link to your blog that I found on another blog post that I just read.
There are lots of posts to read for me here on your blog and it will take me a while to catch up. But I already can tell you, I like your blog and your writing style.
Best Regards
Paula Jo
Squirrels are awesome! You picked a great name and run a fine blog here! 🙂
We are pleased to know that you have 14 pictures of Our Garden in Torquay, Devon on your website “Our garden at 19” by Pat at the Squirrel basket. We open for the NGS end July beginning of August and we are wondering where you got all our photographs from? We didn’t know we had so many in the website. The first one is our Oriental Garden. More changes have been made this year!
Not quite sure what you mean?
Are you referring to the tree following link boxes mentioning Brian Skeys’ site?
If so, you possibly need to ask him at his own website: http://ourgarden19.blogspot.co.uk/.
I don’t think I have any pictures of Devon on my own website.
Best wishes 🙂
