Victoria Park: A very colourful autumn

Fallen maple leaves in Victoria Park
As usual I took some general photos of Victoria Park when I visited for the monthly tree-following inspection of my Lombardy poplar. I have not seen such excellent autumn colour for years. For the last couple of months we have had mostly mild weather and a mixture of sunshine and rain, with no early frosts. This must have been favourable for the display.
Here are my latest pictures – although I have also saved a couple of particularly good trees for a separate blog post…
Larch near the entrance to the park…
…larch cones
The flower beds have now been planted…
…looks like those fancy and colourful daisies?
The bandstand
Weeping lime or linden (Tilia tomentosa ‘Petiolaris’)
The Catalpa does not look quite so attractive…
…it still hangs on to some of its “beans”
Fungi on a tree stump…
…a closer look
The flower bed by the volleyball court has also been planted…
…rain on one of the palms, which have bow been stripped of their berries by the park gardeners
A general view
A hornbeam trained horizontally
Oak leaves (red oak?)
A trained cherry tree…
…looking from underneath – very bonsai
Magnificent cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani)
Grey squirrel nibbling a maple seed
There are also things to see on the streets between my home and Victoria Park…
Colourful autumn wreath on a front door
St John’s wort (Hypericum) in a garden…
…still in flower
And finally…
It was close to Remembrance Day and someone had crocheted this lovely topping for a post box
That postbox must have cheered many passersby, even this one
Indeed, another passer-by commented as I was taking the photo.
I believe the phantom wool-worker regularly places something topical on this postbox…
All the best 🙂
