Looking up at the tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) in Victoria Park
On my November visit to Cardiff’s Victoria Park two trees particularly caught my attention for their autumn colour, so I thought I would give them a blog post of their own.
The first was one I had not noticed before but as soon as I saw the leaves I recognised it as a tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera). They are distinctive and give one of the alternative names of “saddle-leaf tree”

It is a statuesque tree

I have seen tulip trees in flower elsewhere but I don’t know if this one will bloom and I am tempted to choose it for my tree to follow next year, although I should try to find one elsewhere as I have maybe visited Victoria Park too often now.
The other golden tree was a beech (Fagus sylvatica), which had also escaped my notice before…

These are the best autumn trees I have seen for years. Well done, Nature…
Lovely post and pictures. Two wonderful trees, and I think that the tulip tree is well worth following next year. Liz is probably going to follow a golden spirit smoke tree in her garden and I may follow a sweet chestnut in the local park. xx
Those sound interesting choices – I am not familiar with the smoke tree, so must look it up.
I am not decided yet, but the tulip tree does indeed seem like a good one.
All the best 🙂
