Leaves on the pavement from the Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra ‘Italica’) in Victoria Park, Cardiff
The days are growing short here in South Wales and the ground is sodden with recent weeks of rain.
But the weather brightened enough on my day off this week to visit the Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra ‘Italica’) I am following in Victoria Park, Cardiff.
There are still small yellow leaves attached to the branches and even one or two still green.
Here are my pictures:

View from the street outside the park…

…I missed the top of the tree

A mixture of leaf colour

Autumn is also coming for the sycamore tree growing at the roots of the poplar

Twigs growing up from the broken branch

The poplar from inside the park – I cut the top off again!

Bottom part

Near the top – without the very tip

Branch overhanging the street

Some green leaves remain

Crossed roots

Fallen leaves on one of the buttresses

Looking up

Looking back from the south-east
By next month I expect all the leaves will have gone and we will return to the beginning of the tree-following year…
You can find my previous Lombardy poplar postings here…
See you again in December…
Lovely colours. It seems to be hanging on to it’s leaves for a long time, much to our benefit!
Thank you for your kind words 🙂
Good pictures. It’s certainly an impressive looking tree, and the leaves on the ground show a notable range of colours. xx
Thanks for the kind comments 🙂
I like the buttresses … so much character in the trunk!
And so much age and hard work by nature 🙂
Such a beautiful tree and your photos are lovely. Poplars have such pretty leaves.

Yes, very dainty leaves with a great “quivering” effect.
Thank you for your kind words 🙂
