Everywhere in Victoria Park this month were daisy-type flowers – this was in the narrow bed near the ice-cream shack and I think it is a beautiful Rudbeckia
Another month, another view of Victoria Park in Cardiff. In June all the flower beds were bare with brown earth ready to be planted. Just a month later they are full of colour. Here are my latest snaps…

Fuchsias at the entrance to the park

Red flowers surrounded by silver-leaved border edging

These are the red “daisies”…

Flower bed by the volleyball courts…

…with pale yellow “daisies”…

Castor oil plant (Ricinus communis)?…

…Petunia or Surfinia…

…and I can’t think what this is

Flower bed around the water-fountain canopy…

…with red Geraniums – my cameras are never very good with bright reds…

…Cosmos?

And more Cosmos in the four big triangular beds around the water fountain canopy
There were also attractive trees…

The Indian bean tree (Catalpa bignonioides) is looking good…

…with its big leaves

Hornbeam leaves and fruits

At the base of this dead old tree…

…someone has placed a mysterious object…

…a prettily painted pebble saying “cherry nice”

A shady park bench

The bandstand

Rose arches…

…with Clematis…

…and roses

Some areas have been left wild…

…I think this is dock (Rumex)

There are interesting trees along the eastern side of the park, which I noticed as I walked up the road outside – like this red-flowered specimen

Ginkgo

Moss-covered maple

And finally I am quite pleased with this image of oak leaves
Well that’s it for another month – see you in August…
Red mystery might be something Mexican? Familiar but I can’t name it.
I am annoyed that I am stumped, too. In some ways it looks like a very small Canna…
Best wishes 🙂
a giant red Lobelia?
Mmm – you could be right! The flowers look very similar. I see this the perennial red lobelia is often called cardinal flower.
I will keep an eye on it to see if it gets the spike of flowers that isn’t yet evident.
All the best 🙂
