One of the very few flowers in Victoria Park, Cardiff, during these pandemic days
Here are some of the snapshots I took on a recent visit to Victoria Park – it makes you realise what hard work the Parks department usually do to bring colour with seasonal bedding plants. The flower beds are almost bare this year…

A sad flowerbed

A frosty day

The beach volleyball courts are abandoned…

…and the tennis courts, covered in dead leaves

A conifer…

…possibly a larch?

The unmistakable suckers at the base of a lime/linden tree

…very colourful

I saw movement up in the tree but couldn’t quite get this goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) into focus

Last year’s linden seeds

This old tree is in a real mess…

…a branch has ripped off to leave a scar…

…there are burrs…

…bark has disappeared…

…and there is a white fungus I haven’t yet identified

Frosted buttercup and daisy leaves

A grand old tree on the edge of the park…

…with a flourishing fern
I hope to discover more about Victoria Park now I will be visiting monthly to see the Lombardy poplar I am following…
