One of my favourite mosses towards sunset – Pohlia nutans – nodding thread-moss or copperwire moss
I used to wander the streets of Canton in Cardiff quite often, taking pictures of the street plants, but it has been some years now (see previous posts here). The current Covid-19 lockdown has revived my interest as I am now able to leave the house only rarely, for some exercise.
The majority of the pictures here were taken on a walk to the post office and the great thing about it was that there were so few people out and about that most of the time I was alone with the plants…

This was a new one to me but I think it is a form of Valerianella – corn salad or lamb’s lettuce

An old favourite – ivy-leaved toadflax (Cymbalaria muralis)…

…however tiny, the flowers attract bees

Forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides)

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)

Red valerian (Centranthus ruber)

Lesser celandine (Ficaria verna) with stems of cleavers or goose grass (Galium aparine)

Groundsel (Senecio vulgaris)

I think this will grow up to be wall lettuce (Latuca muralis)

Maidenhair spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes)

Possibly wall-rue (Asplenium ruta-muraria)?

Possibly another species of Asplenium

Possibly a tree – birch?

Buddleia davidii gets everywhere – this was in a deserted council car park

Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)

Unidentified tree
Many of the walls pictured above belong to the Chapter Arts Centre building, which used to be Canton High School, built in 1905…

In the bright afternoon sunshine this decoration on the side of the Chapter Arts Centre building stood out
Finally here’s that moss again from the top of this post. Occasionally I still add to my Mosses Identification Project page…

How small our worlds have become now…
The moss is beautiful. Fully worth putting twice. Wonderful post. Makes me miserable though – wish I could go out and do a street plant post. But I’m glad to have seen these plants through your eyes and hope you will do more posts like this as the summer progresses.
I know how much you love your street plants and now I know you always have…
All the best 🙂
Hi,
Love all your flowers on your walk….so pretty, it always amazes me where plants take root at. I was blog hopping and stumbled onto your site. Would love to join in on I’m Following A Tree. I’ve posted about this at my place…Have a great day!
Excellent – I have commented on your blog and I am now following you (I hope).
Best wishes 🙂
