A stone egg is a useful landmark on Schooner Way
I love this very big stone egg in Schooner Way, in Cardiff Bay. A map tells me it is the centrepiece of an attractive apartment development called Henke Court.
It is a great landmark as I can use this cut-through to reach the Wharf (former East Bute Dock) now that a stretch of the walkway around it is sealed off for building work and it is impossible to do a complete circuit.

This is the path in from Schooner Way – the trees are planes (Platanus) but this picture was taken before they changed colour for autumn

Looking back from the cut-through that leads to some steps down to the Wharf walkway – it is private property so I treat it with great respect

It is a lovely egg…
I do wonder, though, is it meant to be art? Does it need complexity to qualify for this status?

Its surface is patterned like an alien moon…

…and at its base are parallel black lines like splash marks
If it is a work of art, it is unsigned by its creator…
my thought….yes, it is. Love it. Thanks for the post.
And thank you so much for commenting 🙂
That is beautiful; I always think that eggs are perfection in shape and form and this has surface interest too. I should like to see that.
I guess there must be something mathematical that makes the shape of eggs so appealing?
All the best 🙂
It surely is intended to be art. Strange then not to credit the creator with some signage nearby?
No name that I can find, and I have tried searching for any information about it online but failed so far.
All the best 🙂
Art or not, it’s great! I especially like the view in the second photo.
Thanks. It makes it look a very green area!
It is on the way to “my” tree-following linden, so I will maybe see what it looks like now it’s fully autumn.
All the best 🙂
Imagine the size of the bird that would sit on that to hatch it!! 😉
Or dinosaur…
Wish I had thought of that!
Best wishes 🙂
