Golden leaves on the little-leaf linden (Tilia cordata) beside the Wharf on October 3 – slightly speckled with brown damage and with a few leaves still green against the blue sky
We are in the middle of Autumn here in Cardiff and the small-leaved linden (a cultivar of Tilia cordata) next to the Wharf in Cardiff Bay is shedding its golden leaves.
I took these pictures on October 3 during a clear and cold spell, but this weekend we have been hit by the wind and rain of Storm Callum so I doubt if many leaves now remain.
This month I again walked anticlockwise around the Wharf and took distant views of my linden and its neighbours before I reached them.

Looking across the Wharf to the north west – ‘my’ linden is the one on the left and that very tall building rising up behind is new student accommodation nearer Cardiff’s city centre

Zooming in – and I could see two people, probably anglers, under the linden

Looking south from the top end of the Wharf

I tried to avoid the fishermen by taking my pictures from the car park behind the linden

There are still quite a few green leaves

Top of the tree

If you look carefully you can already see the red buds of next Spring’s leaves…

…a closer look

Fallen leaves blown into a corner by the wall

The leaves have also blown on to the surface of the Wharf – here mixed in with green pond weed

More golden leaves afloat

The water makes a work of art of the leaves…

…which tempted me to put a PhotoShop cut-out filter on it…

…or’ poster edges’

and finally… every leaf is an individual
See you again in November – when I expect most of the leaves will have blown away. You can see my other linden posts here.
And you can find everyone else’s tree-following posts this month here.
Very pretty!
I enjoy seeing Autumn colors in the trees
Thanks for hosting.
Happy Tree Following!
Thank you for joining in – and I really must pop over to leave some comments on your other excellent posts, which I have enjoyed reading 🙂
You caught the trees at a good time! The gold and orange add a nice touch to the scenery, against the rusty-colored brick (I think) buildings. Have a good autumn 🙂
Yes, I think it’s brick!
But autumn goes by so quickly, and so differently for each tree, even trees of the same species in different city micro climates.
All the best 🙂
