It’s time to follow through on a few things I mentioned in earlier gardening/nature blog posts, so here goes. The headings are the links to the original posts…
Frosted Cotoneaster horizontalis, December 10, 2011
When I took some midwinter pictures of Cotoneaster berries, I commented that I had never noticed the flowers in summer and said I would look this year. I did. And here they are…
What is even more surprising, I didn’t have any idea what they looked like when they opened, and mistook them for something else entirely, like Potentilla maybe – but here are the fully open flowers…
Moon maple may pull through after all, February 25, 2012
I thought I had lost my golden full moon Japanese maple (Acer shirasawanum aureum) last autumn and it was very late breaking into leaf this spring. But hooray! It survived, and here it is…
Euphorbia is just my cup of three, March 28, 2012
Sadly my neighbour’s lovely Euphorbia characias was knocked flat by heavy rain and he turfed it out and moved it away to a less exposed place, too far away for me to take pictures.
On a brighter note, I picked up a small Euphorbia x martinii Kolibri from the Cardiff RHS Show and, although it has also been knocked by our very wet June weather, it survives in a pot. Here it is…
The light in a baby starling’s eye, May 27, 2012
The starling gang are still eating everything I throw at the bird table, but the babies – there are now at least four of them, are losing their cuteness.
So that’s it for now, loose ends tied and follow-ups done, I guess…
Yes..I call starlings…”snarlings”…..
I have given up calling them anything, as I despair that any of the other birds will be left any food at all. I especially feel sorry for the blackbird, which looks a bit bemused, especially as it is about the same size as a starling, as if the starling is its evil twin. I have started to call it a “starlingist” regime. Get it?
I have enjoyed your posts about pollinators this week.
Best wishes 🙂
I do get it….
[…] of the end of May–and a dedicationTying up loose ends in the garden…Tying up loose ends in the […]
Thanks for tying up the loose ends…just finished tidying up my “weed” garden..for summer..many new plants cropping up due to the deer and birds leaving ” deposits” after eating..love trying to figure out the names once they mature..from manure…hehehe…great pics…
That’s the spirit!
Yes, it’s fun waiting to see what a weed develops into. Sad when they finally get a bit too big and have to be dug out, really. Or dug in, as “green manure”…
Best wishes 🙂
